The best of all the rest

1400 entries were whittled down to just 12 - our Shortlist - all of which are being played out in cinemas across the country for a whole year.

Next, after weeks of deliberation, Kevin Spacey, Stephen Mangan, Richard Branson and the rest of our heavy-weight Judging Panel decided on a winner - The Black Hole by Olly Williams and Phil Sansom.

But which was the nation's favourite?

We put it to the public vote and the People's Choice Award went to The Hobbyist by Justin Waite.

Check out both winning films below, plus the rest of our fantastic Shortlist.

And big congratulations to everyone who took part in this year's competition - but if you think you could do better, that's what Virgin Media Shorts 2009 is all about. We're looking forward to it already!
