err, please explain how showing this in schools would have any effect of warning kids away from drugs? If I was in school and saw this I would just laugh, I'm sure most other kids would too. If people seriously think this is how to warn kids of the dangers of drugs then we need more help than I thought, this teaches nothing.

Wow this is an excellent piece of work, it really shows the effects of drugs..it would really work well in schools because it gets the message across clearly without lecturing..i think people would really respond to this. what else can i say? this filmhits the nail on the head... fantastic work

    J,

What would you recommend so? Telling kids drugs are bad is not the way, something else has to be tried and this could be one such approach. Being downbeat and dismissive without providing an alternative is just a typical response. I think it would be worth trying it in a school and see what comes out of it.

    Bryan,

I am not being dismissive, I just fail to see the point of a film like this being used in schools, tell me what does it actually teach other than someones strange interpretation of drugs and its uses backed by suspensful music? There is no message. If you want an alternative I do not have one, but please tell me then a reason as why this film would work? We already have films like this in schools and they don't do anything other than give kids some time off from work to have a laugh over a stupid film, the reason they end up in schools is because for some strange reason people think it can help, tell me how please, this is not education this is a joke.

Of course my film is influenced by other works...everything is...it should inspire you to take your own approach to whatever you want to convey. What you get from a good film is inspiration. What you get from a bad film is desparation...

Regarding the music for the film, Music is the most integral part when creating a film, that was one of the 'key' factors I was told before ever creating a film. A lot of people don't seem to appreciate how important music is when even watching a film, it resonates suspense, emotion, joy etc.
Without music in film, it would be pointless in my opinion. It helps to convey your story or message across. That is why there is such a powerful piece of music in the film I have made.
    Thanks for all the comments!

i do not get how this video portrays decadence (even though it should have been an easy subject) or how the chapters correspond to their name. why is this thread of comments all about showing the clip in schools?
from an artistic perspective, the music is not new and pretty famous actually, as is the succession of animated images employed for the video effects. i think the jury will expect something more out-stream, i wouldn't bet on the video going very far in the contest.

I'm sorry to be negative, but for me this is just a montage of images cut to music. It doesn't feel like a film and doesn't convey any message to me. Style over substance, I'm afraid.

everything a short film should be in my opinion, eyecatching, thought provoking, disturbing and a series of images and sounds which will stick with you. And also, what would filmakers of today be without watching other films and being influenced? look at tarantino!

Well made art work, that`s true! Without a meessage, I would not say. It could be a part of some very hard core music clip but I would not dare to show this to kids. It is too hard, even scary. I myself shiver when I watch it. But if you ask, it would prevent me from taking drugs. Yes! But I would at the same time have sleeping problems.

My bro loves it and appreciates the hard work. I now think it is not supposed to have any message. It is just art of decadence with actually nothing particular it wants to say. Am I right?

beyoutwo: You probably didn't understand what I intented to say in the previous comment which is my fault because I didn't really make it clear. Well, I put this video to my favourites because from the first time watching it I'm not sure if this is kitch or art. Therefore I keep coming back. I think, it's kitch in that meaning that it shows the fall of teens in too hard way (in a why that we have seen so many times in different types of movies as Requien for a Dream etc.). I don't dare to say it's not like that in real life, probably and sadly it is. But, if we want or not, in our ordinary reality there are more soft drugs addicted people than hard drug addicts). And people who I know and who are addicted to soft drugs don't undergo such a theatrical process of decline. It is very different (as far as I have witnessed) from what this video shows. It is more inside than outside, only certain things can whos this person is not completly alright. If someone wanted to make an artistic documentary or whatsoever what includes some message for teens, this would have to be much different, more original and less theatrical. I consider this movie as art, too. BUT, I can only appreciate its artistic tendencies if I accept that it doesn't want to spread any message. And I think this is what the beginning intents to say - that this is just visual art of decline and nothing else (that's why I asked if I was right, I hoped the maker would answer). Because only then I can accept it as art. I hope my point of view is more understandable now. I am truly sorry for my English (I am not a native speaker which is probably not hard to recognize) and I hope you will react to my comment (as I want to answer myself this question if it's kitch or art and finnaly move to some other object of my interest).

Decadence

Submitted by d-star514 Views 55 Comments

Addiction... it consumes mind , body and soul. Watching through the eyes of troubled teens, portrays their downward spirals from the hope of blossoming dreams into the helpless state of moral decay.
